Paikgacha municipality is a small town located at the South-Eastern part of Khulna district comprising areas about 6.95 squire kilometers. Geographically it is a coastal area and main occupation of the people are farming (crop, shrimp, fish), business, services and day laboring with 19798 populations. Near about 40% of them live below the poverty line. Safe drinking water is considered as the first problem in this area. Saline contamination both surface and ground water. High Iron contamination (8-9mg/l) in ground water. Shrimp Cultivation and saline water collection is a common practice here. WASH options effected by saline weather. 4nos sweet water pond for cooking water collection. It is a disaster porn area and people of this area are facing disaster in every year and river tide and flood high problem for sanitation. Experience of extreme natural disaster and with changing climate, the water cycle is changing and affecting the availability of fresh water, sanitation system and hygiene behavior. Nabolk implemented different project since 2009 supported by Water Aid Bangladesh and WASH4 Urban Poor project is to support the people for ensure safe drinking water, safe sanitation and change hygiene behavior and also capacity building of stakeholders (Municipality, CBOs, School teachers, SMC, Hardware management committee, Community support committee).
The goal of the project is to reduce WASH vulnerability of poor, marginalized, communities of Paikgacha municipality in a sustainable way through raising their voice on WASH rights.
